Minor Works and Community Equipment

This procedure should be used by all Adult, Children and Young People’s Services to request specialist assessment and/or provision of:

  1. The Community Equipment and Wheelchair Service; and
  2. Minor Adaptations.

The Community Equipment and Wheelchair Service 

This service provides a range of equipment to help individuals live independently, whether it’s equipment for their home, or things to help them while out and about. Somerset residents can be loaned equipment as long as it is needed from this service, which includes delivery and fitting, servicing, collection and recycling.

Minor adaptations

This service relates to adaptations costing less than £1,000 e.g., Steps and rails, door widening, some electrical and plumbing works.

Enquiries and referrals for ALL types of equipment or adaptations for Adults, Children and Young People should go to Somerset Direct on 0300 123 2224.

Under the Care Act 2014 (section 14), all community equipment and minor adaptations up to the value of £1000) must be provided free of charge whether provided to meet, prevent or delay needs.

Information about maintenance is provided at delivery/ installation.
